Emergency Closure Procedures

Milford-on-Sea Primary School regularly reviews its procedures for emergency closures, as required by the Local Authority. Closures may be necessary due to adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen emergencies.

Decision to Close

The decision to close the school is made by the Headteacher, in consultation with the Chair of Governors, following appropriate risk assessments and advice from relevant agencies. The Local Authority will be notified immediately of any closure.

How Parents and Carers Will Be Informed

Once a decision has been made, parents and carers will be informed as quickly as possible through the following channels:

  • Email via Arbor  – An email will be sent to all registered parents and carers by 7:30am where possible.
  • School Website  – Closure information will be published on the school website from 7:30am.
  • Local Authority Updates – The Local Authority will notify local media where appropriate.

During the School Day

If conditions worsen during the school day, the school will take steps to ensure pupils can return home safely. This decision will be made following advice from relevant agencies.

If travel arrangements cannot be safely altered, pupils will remain in school under staff supervision until they can be collected by parents or carers. Updates will be shared via the school website and Arbor.

Keeping Children Safe

We hope these contingency plans will not be needed. However, parents and carers can be assured that the safety and wellbeing of all children remains our highest priority, and every effort will be made to communicate clearly and promptly in the event of an emergency closure.
