Early Years Foundation Stage

(EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) sets out children’s learning and development stages as they grow from birth to five years. It covers 7 areas of learning; Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Our curriculum across the Early Years is unique to each individual cohort of children. Our children learn largely through child-led learning through their play, alongside whole class and group work. We  plan our provision to meet our children’s individual needs, next steps and interests. At MOSPS we have an open plan, free-flow environment that encourages the children to foster their independence, resilience, thinking and key skills. Much of the content of the EYFS is delivered through continuous provision alongside themes across the school year. Within each theme, children will experience:

  • A range of rich, key texts that maximise opportunities for children to find out more about the wider world
  • Real-life experiences that provide and reinforce context for children
  • Links to their prior learning, with a clear progression of skills across all areas of learning
  • Opportunities to maximise language development

Communication from School

At MOSPS, we feel that good communication between the home and the school is essential for a child’s wellbeing. This is done in two ways in Reception year.

Tapestry provides each individual child with their own Learning Journal held online. MOSPS can upload observations, photos or videos; recording children’s achievements and assessing their learning in reference to the EYFS curriculum. You may be familiar with Tapestry from a former preschool/ nursery setting.

Arbor is used throughout all school years to send important messages and updates to parents.

Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.

What is the learning journal?

A learning journal is a record of each child’s learning and shows snap shots of children’s achievements and progress in relation to the EYFS.  Not every activity they do will be recorded as a rough guide there should be a new entry on each week.  Some times more sometimes less!
