At Milford-on-Sea Primary School, we firmly believe that every child matters. Our staff work hard to ensure that all children make strong progress in their learning and are supported to achieve their full potential, whatever their starting point.

Our skilled teachers and Learning Support Assistants strive to meet the needs of every child through high-quality, inclusive classroom teaching. Lessons are carefully planned to provide the right level of challenge for all learners, focus clearly on learning objectives, and make use of a variety of teaching and learning approaches.

We encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning and outcomes, helping them to develop confidence, resilience and a positive, motivated attitude towards learning.

There are times when children may need more targeted support. We aim to identify additional needs as early as possible and ensure that the right provision is put in place quickly and effectively.

We work in close partnership with parents and a range of external agencies, such as Speech and Language Therapy Services and Educational Psychologists, and our staff engage in regular, relevant training to maintain best practice.

Children who have identified needs requiring support that is additional to, and significantly different from, their peers are included on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) register.

Condition Overviews from the NHS

A child may have SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) if they have a learning difficulty, a disability that hinders their access to educational facilities, or a significantly greater difficulty in learning. This can affect their behaviour, social interaction, reading, writing, concentration, or physical abilities, and requires them to receive support that is additional to or different from what is typically provided.

Information on some of the most commonly occuring SEND conditions in children can be found below.

If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
