Please notify the school office asap if your child is unable to attend school due to illness, medical appointments or holidays.
Illness:
Please notify the school office if your child is unwell and unable to attend school by 9am at the latest. Please then notify the school on each subsequent day of illness. The school is unable to assume a child’s reason for absence.
You can either submit an absence on the pupils Arbour account, email the office adminoffice@mosps.hants.sch.uk or phone 01590 642945
Medical/ dental appointment:
Please provide the office with proof of your appointment eg. Appointment letter/ email.
Holiday:
Please notify the school of any holiday which fall within school term dates. Schools are only able to authorise absence from school in exceptional circumstances, but all requests are reviewed by the Headteacher.
An absence request form can be downloaded from the link below.
Children should be kept away from school 48 hours after their last bout of vomiting or diarrhoea.
If you are uncertain whether your child should be in school due to illness, please refer to this Guide to infection control.
Prescribed medications can be dispensed from the school office only if a medication is to be given four times daily. Please complete a medical form and submit it to the school office.
If the prescription is for 3 times daily, and the full dose can be given outside of school hours (eg breakfast time, after school and before bed) we are unable to dispense the medication.
We provide breakfast from 7.30am. Booking is essential and payment is required in advance.
The After School club is held in the preschool building and grounds, with resources suitable to the age of the children from reception to year 6.
Sports and leisure after school clubs are run by both the school and outside providers.
We are a NUT FREE school
Please be aware that we have children in school who have severe nut allergies, that require epipens if they come into contact with nuts.
Lunch boxes:
Please double check all packed lunch items/snacks, ensuring that they do not contain nuts – this includes Nutella, desserts such as Battenburg and Bakewell, hummus and many cereal bars – please check ingredients before adding to your child’s packed lunch.
For information on school lunches at MOSPS, view our school lunches page.
Taking a pride in school is important and looking smart is one way of showing this. School uniform also makes clothing your children more straightforward and we have kept it as simple as possible so that most items can be purchased fairly readily, and the children can be in school colours at all times. We appreciate your efforts in maintaining a high standard of appearance.
Pre-loved Uniform:
We are working towards trying to set up a “pre-loved” school uniform service, and will give details here, when we have them. In the meantime, we often have a lot of items in our School Office, so please do get in touch if you need anything – we might just have it and for only a nominal contribution!
Parking is not allowed in the school car park without prior permission under any circumstances.
If you do have permission to park in the car park, this only applies to the 4 visitor spaces.
Parking is available on nearby roads or in the public car park on Lymington Road. Please be mindful not to block driveways and access for local residents and do not park at South Lawns Hotel.
Teachers can be contacted via their direct email address. These are in the format of – first initial.surname@mosps.hants.sch.uk
eg. J.Blogs@mosps.hants.sch.uk
Alternatively you can contact the school office on adminoffiice@mosps.hants.sch.uk or 01590 642945
Online payments for school trips, breakfast club, musical provision and lunches are to be made via Arbor.
If necessary we can accept cheques made payable to MOSPS (please write the child’s name and activity that you are paying for on the reverse of the cheque) or cash in named envelopes.
A post box for non-urgent reply slips, letters or payments is on the wall outside the school office. Please ensure that anything posted has a name and if it contains money, please ensure that it is securely sealed.
In line with Government expectations, MOSPS aims for all children to achieve at least 97% school attendance each year. If a child has an attendance rate of 90%, this is the equivalent of missing one day per fortnight. Over a full school year, this represents four full weeks of absence. For many children this level of absence can seriously hinder their progress with learning.
If a child fails to attend school without a valid reason, this is coded as an unauthorised absence. Where a number of unauthorised absences are accrued, schools are obliged to enforce statutory Penalty Notices in accordance the guidance within the Education Act 1996.
Fine (Penalty Notice)
Your local council can give each parent a fine of £80, rising to £160 if you do not pay within 21 days.
From 2025, each parent will only get up to 2 fines for the same child in a 3-year period.
If you get a second fine in 3 years it will be £160. If you do not pay the fine in 28 days you may be taken to court for keeping your child out of school.
If your child is off school 3 or more times within the 3 years you will not be fined but may be taken to court.
We use a communication system called Arbor throughout all year groups to send important messages and updates to parents.
The Parent Portal allows parents to manage their child’s school activities, including monitoring their attendance and booking parents evening appointments. Parents are also be able to update their child’s profile with important information e.g. contact details, home address, medical conditions, allergies/dietary requirements etc. It is vital that parents keep their child’s profile and their own contact details up to date within Arbor.

Tapestry is used only in Reception year at MOSPS.
Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom. You may be familiar with Tapestry from a previous preschool/ nursery setting.
What is the learning journal?
A learning journal is a record of each child’s learning and shows snapshots of children’s achievements and progress in relation to the EYFS. Not every activity they do will be recorded as a rough guide there should be a new entry on each week. Some times more sometimes less!
